Some elderly women who took the job as sweepers in Lagos state, yesterday staged a protest in Ikeja, the state capital over the non-payment of their salaries for 5 months. According to the elderlywomen protesting, some of them are as old as 70 years, they were contacted by one Dafunol International Limited, a contractor engaged by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), to sweep the LAMATA-constructed bus shelters along Mile 12-Ketu –Ikorodu Road–Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) axis. The women said since March this year, the company has refused to pay them their N15, 000 monthly salary. They appealed to the Lagos state government to come to their aid and pay them for the work they have done.
