Drama as Awka kingmakers reportedly dethrone traditional ruler
The Awka Council of Kingmakers, Awka in Anambra State, reportedly dethrone Obi Gibson Nwosu, the traditional ruler of Awka kingdom, on Sunday over alleged violation of the community’s constitution.
18 allegations were said to be leveled against him by the kingmakers, including accusing him of violating the 1986 Traditional Rulers Amended Constitution for Awka , as well as the Code of Conduct which he reportedly signed on 1st January in the year 2000 after he was crowned.
Members of the council and kingmakers took the decision in liaison with the Ndichie of Awka kingdom, The statement was signed by Chief Emmanuel Okechukwu and Obuora Essell while addressing reporters.
The embattled monarch,Obi Gibson Nwosu however, dismissed the group, saying they have no such powers to dethrone him as they were not the authentic kingmakers of Awka.
Mr. Tony Okechukwu, The President-General of Awka Development Union, who is loyal to the monarch, described the alleged dethronement of Obi Gibson Nwosu as laughable, adding that as the President-General, he was the right person empowered by the virtue of his office to appoint kingmakers.
